An exciting legacy mural is coming to Finch TTC station - and we want to hear your ideas!
“Crossroads” is a site-specific community-engaged mural project that proposes a 360° wrap-around design flowing across walls of a stand-alone building of the TTC Finch Station’s entrance, in the Willowdale neighbourhood. This project is an exciting partnership between award winning public art organization STEPS Public Art and Lead Artist Kseniya Tsoy (@al.fergani ) with support of TTC, the Willowdale BIA, North York Arts and funded by the Ontario Arts Council.
Built on the traditional land of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, Haudenosaunee and most recently, the Mississaugas of the Credit River, today's Willowdale is a community with a unique cultural tapestry and home to many newcomers from different parts of the world. Inspired by the cultural tapestry, we aspire for the “Crossroads” mural to become a “neighbourhood portrait” that reflects Willowdale as a meeting place of global perspectives and cultural lineages and aspire to incorporate a unique cultural blend of myths, legends and patterns representative of the community – rooted in diverse world folk motifs, while honouring the Indigenous lands we gather on.
Celebrating this rich cultural mosaic of the neighbourhood "Crossroads" will engage community members of diverse backgrounds in the creation of culturally inspired legacy artwork. All community members with connection to the neighbourhood are invited invited to co-create a beautiful and representative landmark mural of your community.
